Tuesday, September 01, 1998

Seattle – DRAFT #1 – Clear Blue Sky ProductionsÔ (CBSP), the independent film production company founded last year by investor Paul G. Allen, announced that rehearsal started this week in Rome on the set of the company’s current film Titus. The project, a screen adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus, will be directed by Julie Taymor, critically-acclaimed designer and director of Broadway’s The Lion King fame. The film will star award-winning actors Anthony Hopkins and Jessica Lange. CBSP president Jody Patton is executive producer.

Acclaimed director, Emmy and OBIE award-winner Julie Taymor, whose Broadway adaptation of Disney’s The Lion King received rave reviews and 11 Tony Award nominations, will be joined by a talented ensemble in Titus, her feature film directorial debut. In addition to Taymor, Oscar®-winning actor Anthony Hopkins (Silence of the Lambs, Nixon, Remains of the Day) as Titus, and Oscar®-winning actress Jessica Lange (Cousin Bette, Blue Sky, Music Box), the talented creative team includes five-time Academy Award®-nominated production designer Dante Ferretti (Kundun), two-time Oscar®-winning costume designer Milena Canonera (Chariots of Fire), and two-time Academy Award®-nominated composer Elliot Goldenthal (Interview with the Vampire).

“Titus is a dynamic project that fits all of the criteria we look for in a new project,” said Jody Patton, president of Clear Blue Sky Productions. “Its truly innovative concept, the caliber of the film’s acting and directing talent, and the compelling nature of the story make it a great film for Clear Blue Sky Productions.”

Overseas Filmgroup, a leading independent motion picture distribution company specializing in the acquisition and worldwide distribution of independently produced feature films of all genre, began selling the picture at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.
