| “The Blues” attempts to educate a new generation about the origins of this American popular music, and to find a way to evoke the feeling of the blues through personal artistic explorations by six world-famous filmmakers. “The Blues” will be enhanced through a multimedia approach (films, books, CDs, radio programs, classroom guides, etc.). The series and the projects that surround it are all motivated by a central theme: how the blues evolved from parochial folk tunes to a universal language, following a journey from Africa to the Mississippi Delta to the recording studios of Memphis and Chicago, and ending with the emotional embrace of this African-American music by musicians all over the world. |
