Sonny (Timothy Olyphant), Dave (Josh Brolin), and Ann (Sarah Wynter) are three best friends who shared a wild youth. In recent years, Sonny goes to jail for sheltering a crime boss on a drug rap; Dave and Ann get married and have kids. After Sonny’s release, he rejoins his friends and struggles against his attraction to Ann. He also goes looking for Fred Vance, the crime boss who owes him restitution money for taking the rap. Loyalty and desire draw a tense arc in the story when Vance decides it’s cheaper to kill Sonny than pay up; Sonny and Ann consummate their love for each other, and Dave, a sheriff’s deputy, saves Sonny from his killer, despite his knowledge of his friend’s betrayal with his wife.
