synopsis

Humberto Fuentes (Federico Luppi), a wealthy doctor, has never paid attention to the realities of his country’s political turmoil. His life’s achievement has been the training of medical students to work in poor villages. Now approaching retirement, Dr. Fuente sets off on a journey to personally witness his legacy. Discovering that all his students have been murdered by “men with guns,” the doctor searches for answers to this mystery with an assortment of companions that cross his path. Finally learning the truth of his country’s ugly politics, his last quest is for a legendary mountain village where people live in peaceful seclusion to escape the men with guns. Written and directed by John Sayles.
